Light The Night Walk: Taking Steps Toward CuresTM

Each year, in communities across Canada, teams or families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s (LLSC’s) Light The Night Walk events and bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.

Funds raised by teams and individual walkers provide:

  • Lifesaving blood cancer research
  • Free educational materials and events for patients and their families
  • Local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection,
  • a peer-to-peer counseling program

  • Comprehensive, personalized assistance through our Information Resource Centre

Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely walk, walkers carry illuminated balloons – white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer – thousands of walkers – men, women and children – form a community of caring, bringing light to the dark world of cancer.

We are taking steps to cure cancer! Join us!

Registration for the 2012 walks will open in February.

Quick facts about the Light the Night walk:

  • Illuminated balloons and Light the Night T-shirts are provided to all walkers who raise $100 or more to help fight blood cancer.
  • The Walk is done at a leisurely pace and takes less than an hour to complete.
  • Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. However, for everyone’s safety, bicycles, inline skates, wheelie footwear, skateboards and scooters are not allowed.
  • Walks take place rain or shine.
  • Pets? Please check with the nearest office about bringing pets.

Get Swabbed 2012

Get Swabbed 2012

‘Get Swabbed!’ University Challenge 2012 marks the 3rd annual event where university students across the country will be bracing their cheeks to see who will be this year’s national champion!

‘Get Swabbed!’ is an annual coast-to-coast university challenge designed to engage and recruit young and diverse potential stem cell donors. Recruiting young and diverse, specifically, male donors is pivotal to OneMatch efforts to serve patients more effectively by building an ‘optimal’ stem cell Network in Canada.

Last year twenty universities participated and over 7,500 young and ethnically diverse students registered, with a nearly 50/50 ratio of male to female registrants. This overwhelming success has inspired more universities to join the challenge this year.

‘Get Swabbed!’ is managed by student champions all the way from coordination, to promotion and eventual implementation. As with all our community partners, OneMatch will work side-by-side with team champions and members towards a successful 2012 challenge.
